Pure NY Maple Butter

Maple Cream, Maple Butter, Maple Spread, no matter what you call it--it's one of life's true treats.  Ignore the name! There is no dairy in Maple Butter. It's just maple syrup whipped into a paste and ready to be smeared all over your favorite baked goods, hamburgers, grapefruit and so much more!

What is Maple Butter?

We are often asked what it is and it's name complicates things!  People are often surprised there are no milk products used to make Maple Butter (or any of its names: cream, etc). There is only one ingredient---NY Maple Syrup. It only takes some heat and elbow grease to get the syrup to have the velvety consistency and richness that everyone enjoys.

How is Maple Butter Made?

We make maple butter (aka maple cream) by using pure Saratoga Maple syrup and heating it up beyond the point of boiling to get the sugars to crystallize.  We then cool the syrup rapidly and immediately begin whipping it to introduce air and line up the sugar molecules to make the creamy, spreadable consistency.

How to Use Pure Maple Butter?

The possibilities for what to do with maple butter are endless! It's perfect for spreading on English muffins, toast, or even on a grilled cheese with bacon and green apples.  It's a great vegan and dairy-free spread and makes a great frosting for sugar cookies or cupcakes. If the consistency is a little thick, just add some real maple syrup (or a little water) and stir!  It's not unheard of to know people who eat it straight out of a jar or to put scoops of it on top of oatmeal or baked goods.  When warmed in the oven, it will melt and leave a thick sugary glaze and is great on ham or bacon.

How Long Does Maple Butter Last?

Maple Butter is best kept refrigerated.  When properly stored in the refrigerator, a jar of maple butter can maintain its freshness for 2-3 months.  However, for the best preservation and long term enjoyment, use the freezer.  By storing maple butter in the freezer, you can maintain the taste and texture for a year or longer.

Sometimes the spread may separate, but don't worry! Simply stir the syrup right back into the jar and then spread away, there is nothing wrong with it!  Separation is normal with any natural product.
